Memories During the Wait!
by Esther on 17 September 2024
If I could sum up my past three months in one word, it would be “waiting.” One thing I have learned is… waiting is hard. Waiting often comes with times of much doubt, anxiety, and stress. Also, waiting too much causes me to question should I study at another school and do I want to study at the school near my friend or somewhere completely different? My nana once said, “You must have the patience of Job,” but I don’t. I mean Job suffered years of ailment, and I have only been waiting three months for an application deadline to arrive. Yes, there is still more waiting. I know, I know, everyone is asking me the same question I am also waiting to hear back about. I do hope in either the next update or the following one, I will be able to answer the question, “Where are you going to school next Spring.” Right now I can only say this, I do not know where I will be studying.
That aside, I didn’t let the waiting stop me from living in the now. I think when you know this may be your last term at a place you called home, you start to realise how you want to be able to make as many memories as you can before you potentially leave. Furthermore, I have been able to meet some of the coolest people ever this semester. Ok, maybe I say that about everyone, but truly everyone I end up meeting is so special and dear to me. The real question is where to start bragging about my friends.
Backing it up into a summer recap… This summer I had the privilege and opportunity to work with the best orientation team ever! Working in a large group can be tough, and sure not everyone is a happy camper at all times, but I think our entire team can agree that this summer has been just so so amazing! I think the best thing about the group was that we could be true to ourselves and real with one another. Furthermore, from my perspective the students and parents that came through were very nice and respectful (I am speaking generally). I am very grateful for my positive experience, the amazing students I got to meet, and the 26 new friends I got to have through this job.
The days leading up to the first day of class, I got to meet a lot of the international students including students from Nepal, Poland, Taiwan, and China. Yup… Students from my native country are here. I later learned there were a few here last year, but this year there are so many. I have enjoyed being able to get dinner with them and spending time with them. I have also gotten involved with our ASA on campus, which I wish I was a part of earlier. I suppose I was too shy last term to do clubs because balancing school and social is challenging. Having a place to go with students like yourself, is just such a blessing especially since I grew up struggling about my identity.
There is, oh, so much more that is happening, but I shall end here. I hope everyone else is doing well. And if there is one thing to take away from this newsletter… Treasure everyone you get to meet because you never know how long they will be in your life! Good bye and see you in the next one!!
