What to do?

by Esther on 28 March 2026

I write this newsletter late because the truth is, I question 1) what I should write about and 2) how often I should write. When I first began my newsletters before I began to back them up on the blog site, they were monthly emails to my former grade eight math teacher. I got word she would share the email with my other teachers, so I looped them in the email, but after she left and another teacher’s email got hacked, I made them public for easier access. The entire intention from them was to help friends of mine get updated on what was happening in my life, but now I cannot continue doing the old format.

A year ago, a major event happened in my life, and I never realized how that event would alter my life. I do not think it is appropriate to explain the situation in my newsletters, but since then what I could share about my life instantly became extremely filtered. The reality of the situation is that many of my friends are not even able to know what I am doing. So this made me wonder whether I should go from my current quarterly format to twice a year instead. I am still unsure, and well I suppose I will monitor how many people are reading these newsletters to decide. I have also noticed over the recent years, my newsletter becoming rather philosophical in nature, and I am by no means a philosopher. I suppose I do want the newsletter I share to be a positive experience for the reader, but I also believe there is a line where I should not cross into territory I am not an expert of.

Doom and gloom aside, the start of 2026 had pushed me to be more comfortable doing the things I love. I still prefer going with someone to places, but I have also begun to do some of the activities I enjoyed before I left the U.S. independently. I also had the blessing of reuniting with a friend I had unstable contact with, and that was a very good hang out. Being able to see that friend and share how both our lives changed in drastic ways in the past year was very inspiring for me. Of course, I also have a field placement that I go to, and I have really enjoyed my time there, but this will be a story for June. Beyond that, I still have school that I do, so that keeps me busy. I try to enjoy every day for what it provides, and I am starting to enjoy the new opportunities I am getting to experience. I am falling in love with the work I do as a future educator and look forward to looking for a job starting this autumn.

There is still a lot I want, but sometimes what you want is not what you end up doing, and that is okay. Sometimes it is easy to get stuck in your own valleys and hyper-fixating on what you are missing out on, but this season of Lent has really shown me how much I am missing out when I focus on such things. It doesn’t mean I stop thinking about what life could be, but it has helped me to think beyond it. I hope everyone can go about the next few months focusing on the blessings of each day’s events! See you all in the next letter.
