A Whole New Chapter!

by Esther on 26 September 2023

Happy Autumn everyone! These past few months have been wild, especially with school starting back again. From moving, travelling, and school, it’s been a wild few months. I have gotten into a new rhythm thankfully.

Before school started, my parents took me on a trip to Colorado. It was a super fun trip for me because I was able to relax by myself during parts of the trip. We visited Colorado Springs first, and of course, I had to go see the USAFA campus while I was there. Unfortunately, the chapel is under renovation, but just seeing the campus was amazing. For those who didn’t know this, ever since I was little, my dream was to be in the Air Force, so it was huge to visit USAFA. We also visited some other fun places, but we spent most of our time in the Rockies. Going in the summer was definitely different from the pictures. Having been to the Rockies in Alberta, it was interesting to see the mountain green and lush rather than snowy and rocky. This trip also inspired me to use my travel and photography for a new project I am currently working on, and hopefully will be announced soon!

The biggest life change was definitely moving and going to a new school. Even though most would say, you still live close to home, the 50-70 plus miles makes a difference. Also given the contentious environment I ended up in, it was really a breath of air. I get to be somewhat more independent and choose where to go when I leave my new home. As most who know me know, I have 2 families. Confusing for most, but to put it simply, my legal parents’ friends took me under their roof a few years back and have become family to me. I like to go to my mama’s house to hang out and help where needed.

Academics are going fine. I love some classes and others I wish never existed (or that I had a better professor). I personally feel like I am constantly studying, which for most would sound normal, but I have learned that that isn’t that normal. I have written more papers than the number of weeks we have in school, which is concerning, but hopefully doesn’t scare off anyone considering going to university. I have definitely learned which professors not to take next semester and which ones I highly recommend to others. My favourite course this semester would be college algebra. My professor is amazing and super chill and relatable. He definitely connects with us students on a level where he simply understands if the teacher doesn’t want to do something then the teacher shouldn’t make us do it. He also understands that math is you get it or you don’t and forcing everyone to solve hundreds of problems per night is not effective, so he uses software that lets us practice the few questions he assigns, but if we don’t know how to, it has a video showing how to solve it and another button that gives us practice questions similar to it. I really like that because I am the type where once I get it, I want to move on. Personally, I also enjoy this class because I have the least amount of homework in the class. One other class I would like to highlight is my choir class. I am part of my school's University Singers. We perform monthly and would love for you all to come to our concerts. Currently, we are raising money to perform in Europe next spring. To get information on where our choir concerts are, I will be posting a schedule on my Instagram hopefully soon!

Apart from school and travelling, I am doing well. I am working on some fun projects in my spare time, which have been good for me concerning the amount of stress I put myself through weekly. Some of my fun ventures involve making some personal content for my YouTube platform. I have been sharing the videos below for a while, but some may not have realized that this is my personal platform I started as a gift to my parents. Currently, I am using it to capture memories of my younger siblings and update my parents on how university is going. I hope to make other fun videos on the channel as well, so if you aren’t already subscribed, please consider doing so!

With that, I hope everyone is doing well! Have a wonderful Autumn!!
