Skating into 2023!

by Esther on 8 April 2023

It is crazy to me that three months have passed in 2023 already. This quarter, I have started some new activities which have revealed so much about me. I also got to hear back about three anticipated news. The first thing dates back to October. I submitted a poem to our PTSA Reflections Contest for fun and finally got to hear that I advanced to state with my poem. The poem was about orcas in captivity, which is perfectly timed because there is talk of releasing a captive whale names Lolita back into her native waters. I am no expert, but based on the knowledge I know, I am indifferent to the idea based on what happened with another whale named Keiko. The second thing is my Summer Language Institute program for this summer. I am happy to share I did get accepted; however, I will not be attending due to financial reasons. My parents wanted me to apply for the program and said for me not to worry about the cost initially; however, my parents backed out of their agreement after finding out about my acceptance. I am saddened about that, but I am also excited that I may be doing something else new this summer. Lastly, I am super glad I was able to resolve my AP testing situation. I do not know who screwed up in this, but one of the admins at my school accidentally put me on the AP Exam roster for an exam I am not taking, and though I shouldn’t be proud that I am not taking an exam, this was something I fought a month for because mistakes like mine should be resolved not ignored and blamed upon the student. I forgive mistakes when one takes the time to hear out the issue and fix it, but my school's AP coordinators were unprofessional towards my case. This was resolved with the help and persistence of my counsellor and my headmaster, both of whom I am grateful.

The next thing I am super grateful for is my young adults friend group (formerly known as young twenties). I have changed friend groups over the years, and my current group has brought me so many blessings. Miranda has been so kind to coordinate some super fun outings for the group which allows us to connect and bond. I have joined in on several hiking excursions and some other fun activities. With the help of the group, I truly began to notice how unbalanced certain aspects of my life had become, and I am so grateful for my friends as they are currently guiding me through a very difficult time in my life.

Lastly, if the title didn’t give it away, I have been figure skating a bunch this quarter. Papa has a cardio thing, so he has been trying to do some exercises that are healthy for him. One of the things he does is take Sadie and me ice skating. Papa loves to point out the good figure skaters on the ice, and it is so mesmerizing to watch them slide so flawlessly as they to their skills. Sadie has been getting super good at skating and is now able to skate around without any assistance. It is so cute to watch her glide around the rink since she is shorter than most people at the rink. I have also enjoyed being able to skate and work on some simple skills. There isn’t much I can do, but my favourites are definitely my spins and waltz jumps. Other than that, it is usually Sadie and I mucking around on the ice. I am so grateful to be at the rink and it is the highlight of my week.

I hope everyone had a wonderful first quarter. Until the next one, have a blessed day!!

To Watch

Youth Conference 2023 is such an amazing thing I enjoy it because I get to hear from other youths encouraging messages of faith. This year's theme is I Can Do All Things, and when I watched this, I felt so encouraged and reminded about how it isn’t us but God.

Fern Bank Adventures video of when the kids were off from school. I had so much fun visiting Fern Bank for the first time as a museum-goer.

A Special Package arrived for Sadie and me with some gorgeous dresses in it. Ivy City Co. makes the most gorgeous, modest, and high-quality dresses I have come across that are perfect for Sadie and me to match as the designs are compatible with our age difference. Sadie was learning to rollerblade when we had to try them on, so she was not into the video as much, but once she got to try the dress on, she enjoyed it a lot.

I Will Go and Do cover for this Easter. This is the last singing video I will be releasing for a while to my knowledge.
