Adulting in a Rush!

by Esther on 19 July 2022

Shockingly enough.. This is no longer a kid who is sitting behind the screen writing these newsletters. This past week has been go go go for me in many areas. I think the most important of the two is I finished school up finally!! I have a two-week break before I have to start school again. With so much to share in this letter, I am going to just start my word dump.

First off is hanging out with my two kiddos. Asher is now 3!! I haven’t had Asher and Matie time yet because Asher has been feeling icky lately, but I plan to once he’s all better. Sadie, on the other hand, has had much Matie time. We grabbed ice cream and went toy shopping together. One of the things I am starting is giving the kids a cash budget when I take them on a treat day. I did this with Sadie and she really enjoyed it. I think the kids are at a good age to start teaching them how to shop and be aware of increasing costs. For starters, I am teaching Sadie how to self-checkout (mainly having her find the barcode) and looking at price tags (or understanding that item price < budget). Sadie is so sweet last time and got Asher and Andrew each something while staying under her budget.

Now for the events of the past week. So the week started off with RUSH Conference 2022. This week was so amazing as I got to serve along an amazingly gifted and special team to bring the gospel to 600+ students (and adults too). As a member of the tech team, I got to work closest with William and Brad as stage managers/stage hands. We got to bond really close as we worked backstage for about 10+ hours a day together. It was also a really special RUSH because I got to share it with so many of the graduated seniors who have been my biggest role models and inspirations. Back in about January, many of the band and tech members welcomed me into Watershed as part of their tech team, and sharing our last moments with Watershed together was such an amazing time. I also got to have some of my friends placed in my room, and it was really comforting to have them there because they loved and cared for me. My co-leader, Cassie, and I got an extremely special group of girls this summer and we got our wishes granted in the process. We couldn’t decide if we wanted guest church girls or Perimeter girls during one of our private talks, so the Lord let us have a mixture of both in our group. Each girl has a unique story, and it was just so amazing to see the Lord work in them all week. Thursday night, I got the honor of praying over Amy, one of the girls in my group. I wasn’t the best leader and personally have trouble in group situations, so praying over and with one of them during the Concert of prayer was very sentimental for me.

Following that was my birthday. I started the morning off with an ACT exam which I feel better about, but I said that last time, so only time will tell. Because I have had God moments my past two, I prayed for another God moment this time and God granted my request. While waiting in line for the restrooms during my break, a girl spotted me and came up to me encouraging me so much and telling me that she was a RUSH attendee. I didn’t expect that at all and sadly didn’t get her name. After that, it was pretty much birthday dinner prep. My dad, my mom, and Andrew prepped and cooked me an amazing birthday dinner, but because I was under so much medicine (noncontagious illness), I sadly didn’t eat much. Andrew and I also got to go for a walk which has become one of my favorite pastimes together. Even though ACT and being sick was not ideal on an eighteenth birthday, it was still a memorable day.

That pretty much wraps up my crazy past month. There are so many people I have to thank including everyone during RUSH for giving me such an amazing first and last RUSH, my Whole family for the birthday wishes and prayers, the Wests/Knapps for all the birthday wishes, and many of my close friends. Have a good rest of your summer!! Until next the next one!!

Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt is an amazing economics book I got to read while doing my AP Econ summer assignment. It’s a short and must-read as it really changes how you look at economics and brings it away from what the news media likes to tell you. Will Burr video is a funny video Andrew sent me. I completely agree with him especially when he rips apart the girl problems. Language Page is where I am publishing my language notes. AeroVentures Flight Club is a nonprofit flight club with a mission to allow more people to fly. My flight instructor Mr. John Post is the founder of this club, and he is really the best flight instructor.
