The SM Showdown

by Esther on 4 January 2021

Happy New year to all. Wishing you all a wonderful and bright year. 2020 has been an unexpected year, but I hope all stayed optimistic and positive through it. A lot of stuff has changed this month. For one, I have a legit title for this episode. At least, it isn’t a boring one. LOL.

December is a full month for some, but others, like me, have been a bit of a sluggard. Especially during Winter Holiday. For starters, I realised Hanukkah was over a week after it was over. I have been doing a lot of crafts and really wasting time not doing school. I still feel stupid about signing up for the AP Chem when I can’t even get a passing score on a unit test. I wasn’t thinking to be honest. My grandmother is still here and every day is interesting. I regret not asking Jess if I can borrow Sadie, but I got to visit the office, so I am happy. Though, I always miss it there.

Since this is a New year, I think it would only be fair to talk about the year that has just passed. Also, Josh brought up a good point, shouldn’t it be 2020 part b because they haven’t reset the Covid counter. They do reset the flu counter every year. Hmmmm…. 2020 has really taught me a lot of stuff. One main thing I have learned is to enjoy life to the fullest and never take things for granted. And let’s be honest, anyone living in America is essentially privileged. I believe Mr. Varner, my eighth grade Bible and HR teacher, said that “the poor people in America are fat”. Which is a really true statement. I remember during one of the L418 services, a pastor in Africa, my guess is Nairobi, said that the government raised the prices on a lot of essential stuff and people are rioting as a result. Though the poor people riot in America, they are still privileged compared to the Africans. I say if you are privileged, then be grateful for it and use that privilege to help others and serve God in the process. Another thing I have been working on is humility. I recently changed to a new discipleship group, not that this really makes a whole of difference, but after the stuff I have learned, I often struggle to share in student ministry groups. A lot of the girls in my current group, and my previous group, never got the education and passion for the Bible (and Biblical theology and apologetics)  as I have, so when sharing stuff with them, having to make sure I am saying it in a humble way has been something I had to work on. And yes, many times I have had to have self-control to not correct someone, even the teacher. Let’s just say the Tony Stark and the Holy Spirit analogy made me cringe the most.

My hope for 2021 is that things can go back to normal. I am sure everyone wishes that, but the truth is it will still take a while. With the government the way it is, it will be interesting to see what will happen.

As for the media, I am no longer using Instagram or Facebook. Their new Terms and Services are extremely scary. They can officially stalk you worse than the said Santa. It is more like, Facebook sees you when you're sleeping and knows when you’re awake. Yup. Better watch out and better start pouting cause Facebook is here in town. I have switched to Parler. I will be sharing a lot more on Parler.  I have recently gotten into art and painting, so I like to share my artwork there. I have also been cooking and baking, so I will be sharing a lot of my food stuff. Parler is full of political stuff, but I have always tried to keep my social media as far from politics as I can, so I plan to spread creativity, positivity, and light in there through art and writing.

I hope you are all well. May God’s blessings shower upon you.
